The Painting |

A painter stands in a solitary spot, far away from the rest of the world, only the sounds of the gathering seagulls and the softly lapping surf to keep him company... and then a woman appears, dead center in the view he is painting. The woman tries to strike up a conversation with the man, but he would rather be left alone. When the woman asks if she can sketch the view, the man gives her a pencil and some paper. The woman retreats to a quiet spot. The woman finishes her sketch and then, in the blink of an eye, she vanishes. Alone, the man is unnerved. He looks everywhere for her. Then settles upon her sketch. It matches his painting, but for one detail: a shape floating in the sea. The man investigates..

Implausible Things # 1
|
|
|
Rita Macedo
Portugal, Germany
2012 | 00:11:45
The conception we have of ourselves and the world - and that of our relation to the world - appears, admittedly or not, to obey the stipulation that everything must have a cause or a reason to be as it is and not otherwise. What if we reverse this perspective on things and admit a principle of unreason instead? A principle based on the absence of any reason, through which nothing would be impossible, not even the unthinkable? Hipercaos as primary absolute. Implausible things #1 is the first volume of a serial that looks to reflect upon human existence, the absurd, randomness and pure contingency.

The beginning is another film: an American early-’60s noir, dissected and demolished, whose tortured and “subverted“ images are organized in precarious, fragile and ever-changing structures, in multiple plotlines criss-crossing in a state of constant collapse. Provoke the deflagration of a closed system through a mechanism of chain implosions. Forget what you see while you’re still observing it, and immerse yourself in an ancestral optical vibration. A howl without a reason.
