A film about mankind’s primal drive to climb to the top of every mountain. Would it be possible to survey our complex existence on a mountain? Do angels fly around? We lived our ordinary lifes
7 Peaks

Daya Cahen
Netherlands
2012 | 0:19:00

In this experimental film, confessions of guilt by accused people in the Yugoslavia Tribunal are mixed with childhood memories of a twenty-something, who lived in besieged Sarajevo as a child - exactly twenty years ago. What does war do to a child, to a person? By asking the woman the same questions over and over again about her memories before and after the war, the transformation of a child in wartime becomes painfully clear

The Living Room
The Living Room

Roderick Hietbrink
Netherlands
2011 | 0:08:15

"The Living Room" is a video installation existing both as a three-channel and a single channel version, screened both in film festivals and the museum/gallery circuit. It is a non-narrative piece that shows in an absurd fashion and a deliberate slow pace how our representation of reality is actually a construction. No longer protected from the outside by the thin sheets of glass, the vacuum of the room is broken by the destructive invasion of an oak tree. Being both realistic and absurd, the confrontation between the two raises questions about the meaning and symbolism of the tree and of the private domain within the Western culture.

Daughters
Daughters

Marta Jurkiewicz
Netherlands
2011 | 0:22:00

An intimate documentary reflection on loneliness and loss. After ten years living abroad, Marta returns to Poland to help her mother clear out her recently deceased grandmother’s apartment. The geographical separation which so defines this mother-daughter relationship is represented by blending 8mm family archive film with Skype conversations. Going through the old objects in the grandmother’s apartment brings up the issue of care taking and how its responsibility is shifting to the next generation.

Motor
Motor

Simone Bennett
Netherlands
2011 | 0:09:00

Beginning with a shot reminiscent of Hitchcock’s Rear Window, MOTOR is a short film/music piece that follows the secretive behavior of a group of seven people living in the same building. An atmosphere charged with tension, enhanced by a haunting sountrack, in which paranoia and rumour spread like a virus. Inside sadness seeps through the walls, while outside fear escalates like burning flames. MOTOR premiered at Rotterdam in 2012 and won the Netherlands Film Fund prize in 2009.

October 5th to 16th 2012

We present film series focused on 16 different countries and regions. This section intends to discover and explore different spaces and cultures with the aim to understand the specific regional, political and social circumstances, do reconstruct the emotional and intellectual spécificities of a special region or country. In this critical work we belief it's essencial to prefer films which rufuse, in its form and expression, the retake of sterotype ways of reality restituition, as an act of resistance in the actual period of "globalisation", which inclins to impose one dominating model of culture and habitutes.
