Amid a ceaseless, still winter, coldness engulfs. Frolicking through
a snowy rural expanse and a legacy of post-industrial decay, a young
boy encounters his own death and bears witness to his past, present
and future. The voice of an undertaker, specifically the undertaker,
who has prepared generations of my family, friends and neighbors past
in our small Northern Michigan town of 2,000 people, guides us through
this eternal cold.
The physical sites negotiated in "To Summon and Chase Away" collage
and conflate memory, history, potential and probability.

earth. Utilizing advanced technology, it places the contestant in a
detailed, virtual landscape populated by their innermost fears,
broadcasting it, real-time to a hungry, global audience. This is an
entirely subjective, cognitive experience few have been strong enough
to withstand.
