An enigmatic film that takes us into a “dusty” society. A depiction of human nature that makes us reflect on ourselves. With long sequence shots where the light fades with the dust, we are invited in an absurd, comical and in the same time sad journey, where human relationship is all about surviving. With camera movements that float in the air, we are dragged into a journey that seems to never end. With Psaume we become witnesses of the fall of our modern world: the future becomes the present…

Docudrama based on Joris Luyendijk's Banking Blog in The Guardian about the financial heart of London. We follow ten different characters through the financial world in London, whose monologues are embodied through dance. The characters create a chain reaction similar to the competitive, glamorous exhaustive, uncertain and stressful financial world, in which every day could be your last
|
|
Jury Statement :
Clara Van Good gave us a beautiful, surreal, hallucinating journey
which is 'Voices of finance '.
The monologues of bankers and others across the financial
establishment of the City of London expressed through extravagantly
choreographed dance showed us the meaningful portrait of the world of
finance.

Form merges with concept in this eclectic and discerning montage of
existing footage. It reveals the traces of complex systems in a necro
political society in which slavery hasn’t been abolished but is being
redesigned. Singer Martha Jean-Claude tries to wake us up from this
nightmare but we're starting to wonder if we ever will. Hope is to be
found in filmmakers like Henderson, who won't give up investigating
and exposing what's being so skillfully obscured.

The sounds and images that make up THE THIRD DEGREE lead the jury into
a realm that’s hard to describe, which should be regarded as a serious
compliment to the makers of this artwork. In it, we witness fragments
of persons and processes that are normally carefully kept hidden. The
recording process becomes a vital, visual part of the film itself
while the bodies that are being recorded function like mirrors,
reflecting back the spectator’s gaze, confronting him with his ideas
on otherness, human resilience and the politics of beauty.

Director Statement : Thank you so much for this great news. Wonderful.
Not sure what to say, but I am very proud and happy that my film was
considered by the jury, Also, I feel that the message of the film that
questions collective responsibility and the role of the camera within,
couldn't be more important to raise today in the world dominated by
manipulations and distortions of the reality for a political agendas.

Christophe Bisson

Sequences of frozen figures like from old masters' paintings,
individuals telling their personal stories at the enigmatic rooms..
All these set the subtle, allegorical picture made by Christophe Bisson.
The jury appreciates the way which Bisson tells us what 'Silence' is.

|
Jury Statement :
Christophe Bisson's subtle, allegorical picture shows us sequences of
frozen figures, which reminded us of old masters' paintings. The
gracefully portrayed individuals inhabit enigmatic rooms in which they
tell their personal stories that seem both biblical and mundane at the
same time. The jury appreciates the way which Bisson tells us what 'Silence' is.
