Frederik Subei
Great Britain
2016 / 0:32:00
Calais, the compulsory transit point for all refugees wishing to get
to England, is a real hell. Between the waiting time spent in the
miserable slums of a camp and the dangerous attempts to clandes-
tinely cross the Channel aboard a lorry, questions arise in the mind
of a young Sudanese. After having lived a long time in the “Jungle”,
he reflects bitterly on his dreams.

Ball, a 30-year old man from Taiwan, is attracted by Bangkok’s night
life where parties, friends and alcohol flow freely. But according to
the ancient tradition, a man has to spend a certain amount of time in
a monastery to prove his maturity by facing the harsh rules of
Buddhism. So first, Ball will have to stay in a quiet monastery
surrounded by the sea for two weeks where he’ll have to subject
himself to the spiritual guidance of monks.

An international jury overview the sections of short films coming from all over the world. We prefer documentaries which succeed in representing the complexity of reality and discover in a new way its sensible and perturbing aspects on the same time accentuating the ambivalent and enigmatic status of reality in avoiding sterotypes and simplifing conclusions.
