A village in Russia's south Ural Mountains has been exposed to radiation severa times due to incidents at the "Mayak" nuclear plant. It is one of the most polluted places on earth by radioactive waste. The surreal beauty of this toxic landscape is the backdrop in which the inhabitants lead their lives.Metamorphosen is also a homage to the strength of these people and their daily struggles against an invisible enemy.

Jury Declaration :
For combinig classic documentary craftmanship with the stupidity of mankind failing to see the consequences of nuclear aggression.

Directors Statement:
I am extremly happy and feel very honored to receive the main award for METAMORPHOSEN. I would like to thank the Jury for choosing this film out of such a strong selection. It helps the film and the people living in that radioactive contaminated region to get more attention and at the same time it appreciates my work, which I did under very difficult circumstances with almost no money or support. I hope that METAMORPHOSEN boosted some discussion, thoughts and imaginations in the audience and this festival. Again, I am very happy and thankful for this price. I wish you all a nice evening and hope to meet you next time at Signes de Nuits.

Jury Declaration :
Dead Body Welcome for treating the subject of honoring friendship in a convincing and original way.
Directors Statement:
Like every morning I first check my mail ... to my total surprise I found the message that the international jury of the Signes de Nuit film festival Cinema in Transgression had awarded DEAD BODY WELCOME with the Signs Award. You hopefully understand how incredibly happy I am; it's the first award I ever won for a film I made. Today I'm floating on a cloud, on my way back to Amsterdam and The Hague where I have to work; introduce the film Sangre by Amat Escalante in a small cinema called Het Nutshuis. My thoughts are filled with joy and love for my friends Desiree Duwel, the script writer and of course Jeroen de Rijke who unfortunately both are not with us any more, I miss them very very much. I wish to thank the jury for your daring choice, it's definitely not an easy film, I know, but you seem to have understood the different layers in which DEAD BODY WELCOME can be understood and in fact appreciated them. I tried to make a road movie that in it's vivid tradition is not only a physical but also a psychological travel. I hope my film offered you new perspectives on love, life and death. Thanks also to Rene Goossens, Annemiek van Gorp, Benito Strangio, Menno Boerema, Martijn van Boven and REC Sound. Without their contribution, for which they got hardly any financial compensation, there would not have been a film called DEAD BODY WELCOME...

A man seeks to protect his hypersensitive body from a daily rise in temperature caused by pervasive electromagnetic waves. He concocts an aluminum jumpsuit which he wears under abundant layers of clothing. Despite his fragile health, every evening he rides his motorbike to keep appointments with his customers.
His mission: to destroy cockroach nests. After each mission the man plunges nto the dark heart of the city, crisscrossing the far flung streets of a megapolis in which time has stood still and from which the tumult of the day has disappeared. While awaiting the dawn, he must confront the many intrigues of the night.
