The different worlds in honnor
|
|
October 10th - 20th 2013
We present film series focused on different countries and regions. This section intends to discover and explore different spaces and cultures with the aim to understand the specific regional, political and social circumstances, do reconstruct the emotional and intellectual spécificities of a special region or country. In this critical work we belief it's essencial to prefer films which rufuse, in its form and expression, the retake of sterotype ways of reality restituition, as an act of resistance in the actual period of "globalisation", which inclins to impose one dominating model of culture and habitutes.

Archipelago Science Fcition

Tellervo Kalleinen, Oliver Kochta-Kalleinen
Finland
2012 | 0:25:00
Archipelago Scifi shows four possible future scenarios for the Finnish archipelago. Using web questionnaires and face to face interviews we mapped islanders´worst and best case scenarios about the future of the archipelago. Based on those interviews, 3 workshops were held at Utö, Houtskär and Korpo. The workshops produced different science fiction film ideas portraying bleak or optimistic (or both) visions of the archipelago of Turku in the year 2111. More than 100 locals acted in the films. The four scenarios realized as short films are: Paradise for an aging elite, lifestyle immigration, Neo-capitalism in a post-apocalyptic world, Outdoor museum for the Chinese middle class.
Archipelago Science Fiction is a collaboration between Tellervo Kalleinen, Oliver Kochta-Kalleinen and Swedish filmmaker Henrik Andersson.

Tuomas Aleksander Laitinen
Finland
2013 | 0:04:30
Group of teenagers engage in a pillow fight in a space that resembles a bunker or a room in a correctional facility. At the same time, a voice-over recites strict rules of boarding schools. Dormitorium was made with young people from Helsinki. It was inspired by the youngsters’ thoughts of their own space and the famous scene in Jean Vigo’s Zéro de Conduite in which students of a boarding school get into a pillow fight. The work deals with power and the design of behaviour with words and laws.

Tower of Invincibility |

Tower of Invincibility is a film installation created in a neo-melodramatic style about the advancement of an esoteric health and sports camp in the early 20th century. The camera follows the protagonists during their daily routines: weight lifting, acrobatics, telepathy, leisure time and witnesses how they are progressing from day to day. The film takes place at the Teufelsberg, a former listening station during the Cold War in Berlin. In 2008 the Maharishi Foundation, along with Director David Lynch, bought the terrain for building a 50-meter tall “Tower of Invincibility” and a “Vedic University of Peace”. Analogies to the Maharishi Foundation’s vision were not known when the production of the film was started and therefore the coincidence is mainly fortuitou.

2013 | 0:13:50
An effect whereby a mass moving in a rotating system experiences a force (the Coriolis force) acting perpendicular to the direction of motion and to the axis of rotation.
On the earth, the effect tends to deflect moving objects to the right in the northern hemisphere and to the left in the southern and is important in the formation of cyclonic weather systems." (Source: Oxford Dictionaries)
The Coriolis installation is a three-channel poetic documentary about identical twins, Marthe and Martine, who are separated by the world.
A caregiver of the elderly, Martine lives currently in Helsinki, while Marthe, who works as a dressmaker, still lives in their native country, Togo. The two sisters come from a region where the great forces of the climate, planetary winds, arise.
