H. C. Gilje
Norway
2003 / DV / 0:08:00
Fascinated by crowd’s flows and modern architecture’s lines, which lead big contemporary metropolis, HC Gilje reconstructs urban universe with utopian stresses from real spatial and temporal fragments. Framed with sounds composed by the improvisation’s artist Kelly Davis, his collages recreate the universal spirit of urban life by capturing his poetic and frenetic energy. The general aesthetics of this digital hybrid mix are reminiscent of great German film-makers and photographers of the 20’s and 30’s.

Reza Serkanian
France
2004 / DV / 0:26:00
In a coma, after his motorbike accident, Adrien almost died because of a heart attack. From a vegetable to a boy, everything is possible with cranial traumas, the doctors say. This is the context in which Adrien’s family and friends were filmed with a small digital camera in their rural life in Normandy. Images had to be prepared to bring back memories to him, in case he would have a memory loss after his waking up.

Darina Al Joundhi
France, Liban 2004 / Beta numerique / 0:05:00 / VOST français
For a century, I look at the Arabic people, who wildly dance the Dabké; I have always thought that there was a truth in these pictures somewhere till the day I personally faced this situation in one of our Arabic countries. Then, I started to see differently these scenes of joy and Dabké-dances.
I was particularly surprised the rest of the world ask them so few questions about us, looking at us dancing the Dabké. Well, I wanted to say NO, the reality is not what you see but what you want to see. Do you really think that people willingly dance the Dabké in the street? I recommend you to see the experience of Superman’s characters to try seeing another reality in these scenes of Dabké-dance, which suddenly become torture scenes, if I may use this term.
And why Superman? Each of us, Dabké dancers, has to feel like a Superman in order to endure and survive these numerous humiliations.

Richie Sherman
United States
2004 / DV / 0:08:00
Just as the title might seem to indicate “demolition 7” is an insider look at a demolition derby in black and white with stills, staccato video, and multi screen imagery. Rampaging drivers, a fight and junker car wrecks contribute to a chaotic scene in this ragged and captivating portrait of an American subculture.
