Born in Paris in 1994, Vanya Chokrollahi is a director, editor and short story writer. He studied Cinema in Montreal and then at the Sorbonne in Paris. At the same time as his studies, he began to make short fiction films (La Mise, La Stravaganza,…) and documentaries (Un pas, un mot, L’Anonyme roumain,…), and to work as an editor.
In 2017, his short film NOIR was presented in Paris, Warsaw, Sofia and Tallinn. The following year, his documentary film A pas aveugles dans la nuit on the painter Muriel Richard-Dufourquet was presented in Clermont-Ferrand. In 2019, he shot Louise, a medium-length film presented at the Mecal International Short Film Festival in Barcelona 2020. That same year, his short films Les Immobiles and Après l’ennui were respectively selected and relayed by the Cinémathèque Française (Lettres de Cinéma) and by the International Festival Signes de Nuit.
In 2021-2022, he assisted Atiq Rahimi on two poetic short films L'Affamé and Hamdam, and met Clara Bauer and the Compagnie Mia. He worked on the play Bartleby, Mon Frère by Daniel Pennac presented at the Théâtre du Rond-Point. To this day, Vanya Chokrollahi has directed around twenty short and medium-length fiction and documentary films and published his short stories in various literary reviews.
