HAMLET is a retelling of the Shakespeare classic set in modern day
Hong Kong; pieced together from 'found footage' shot using the 'film'
function of an ordinary compact digital camera. Due to its small,
inconspicuous size, sequences were filmed that would have otherwise
been inaccessible. The resulting images are haunting, a time document
of a Westerner's experience in Hong Kong told in one minute segments.

Excerpt

Guli Silberstein

An excerpt from a flow of Internet video news: a family is hiding behind a wall in a neighborhood that turned into a war zone. The compressed video is slowed down and enlarged, revealing additional dimensions in the scene. The image is transformed into a psychedelic landscape, creating a troubling contrast between imagery and content, leading to an uneasy affect; anxiety deconstructed into pixels. “The simplest Surrealist act consists of dashing down into the street, pistol in hand, and firing blindly, as fast as you can pull the trigger, into the crowd. “ – Andre Breton.
