On Way of Going
+ Infos

“One Way of Going” tells the story of a woman who is slowly saying goodbye to the life she led. Everyday acts are carefully executed. There is a deceleration, as if life is a sequence of still lifes. The body has a central role in the film. It functions as an instrument, it triggers memories. Movements are closely monitored and the emphasis is on the visual and auditive aspect.

It’s the story of history, the mmythogy of an empire. Amid urban rumours, two people will tell the story, a man and a woman. Between empire and kingdom, spaces fluctuate while they expand, heading for a possible union. Or maybe...It’s the story of an escaping bird, the ultimate representative of nature and science. And a hunter that wakes up. Unless it’s the same story.

As night is falling, a group of mountain climbers is trapped at the top of the mountain by a storm. Leading them is Ariane, a young woman. A rescue patrol goes out after them. While waiting for the patrol to arrive, their only lifeline is a state policeman, Serge, who tries over the phone to reassure them and help them fight the cold. But the storm does not subside and Serge gradually realizes that he might not be able to help them to survive through the night.

Eloise, 30, works as a nurse doing home palliative care. All her vital energy is shared among her various patients. She gets it back at night, sometimes in the arms of Vincent, but mostly during her nocturnal wandering where, from drink to drink, from nightclub to nightclub, from bed to bed, she tries to find an outlet. This delicate balance will be threatened by the confrontation with a patient of her own age.

1994 or there abouts. There is a civil war on in Burundi. A genocidal conflict opposing Hutus and Tutsis... We are witnesses to one of those sadly frequent episodes : the attack by the rebels of a minibus transporting ordinary passengers. A Kalashnikov bursts out. The bus stops, the passengers get off. There follows a «selection» separating Hutus and Tutsis. But who is a Hutu, who is a Tutsi?

FISDN 2011 : Honoring the (different) Worlds : Pointing Out

October 5th to 16th 2011

We present film series focused on 16 different countries and regions. This section intends to discover and explore different spaces and cultures with the aim to understand the specific regional, political and social circumstances, do reconstruct the emotional and intellectual spécificities of a special region or country. In this critical work we belief it's essencial to prefer films which rufuse, in its form and expression, the retake of sterotype ways of reality restituition, as an act of resistance in the actual period of "globalisation", which inclins to impose one dominating model of culture and habitutes.
