A time-lapse portrait of Stuttgart’s city in Germany. The movie shows the city in 24 hours. Frankfurt’s urban body and its skyline serve as point of departure. The filmmaker deals with observed architectural structures and their effects on one’s own body. Urban landscapes regarded as forms of human organisms.

Ketamin - Behind the light (Ketamin - Hinter dem Licht)

Carsten Aschmann
Germany

"What kind of road did I choose?" is asking a voice. "Our Earth is beautiful" replies an old man from the void. Ahead the sunset, two boys playing Frisbee. Places and elements alternate. Through long and winding tunnels Carsten Aschmann had a trip to Venice that seems to be outspent and empty. Gondoliers swinging their helm, meanwhile time is passes by. "Ketamin" is a film about sounds, beauty, Art and Life without wrong comforts and bluff on their imminence.

The demise of the "Palace of the Republic" in Berlin, at sunset. This is a portrait of a powerful symbol of nostalgia for the GDR that was re-used, restored and then, eventually, demolished, becoming a changing, magical emblem of the new centre of the city. The last glimpses of its `skeleton` evoke thought-provoking experiences: the last bits of stairwells are reminiscent of other images of ruins, such as Berlin in the 1940s, when it was a bombed-out city, or of the World Trade Center in New York. It also conjures notions of the Romantic era in the 17th and 18th centuries, when ruins where expressly built. "GRUNSKE" is, in an odd way, the name of the sculptor responsible for this accidental monument: it`s the name of a company that recycles metal. Over the course of months, their machinery carried out the contract of dismantling the Palace, for the public good in a public space.

A German couple adopts an Indian orphan in Calcutta. When the child suddenly disappears they realise that they are part of the problem. Terrific performances, enormous scope, and perfect depiction of the color and chaos of India.

FISDN 2011 : Honoring the (different) Worlds : Pointing Outs

October 5th to 16th 2011

We present film series focused on 16 different countries and regions. This section intends to discover and explore different spaces and cultures with the aim to understand the specific regional, political and social circumstances, do reconstruct the emotional and intellectual spécificities of a special region or country. In this critical work we belief it's essencial to prefer films which rufuse, in its form and expression, the retake of sterotype ways of reality restituition, as an act of resistance in the actual period of "globalisation", which inclins to impose one dominating model of culture and habitutes.
